Chapter 300: Not worthy
Chapter 300: Not worthy
Idir and Setan arrived at the pearl market in the city at almost the exact same time.
The entire district was overflowing with single males selling pearls, while countless others wandered from stall to stall searching for the perfect one to buy.
The broad avenue was packed shoulder to shoulder with beastmen.
Idir and Setan browsed carefully from shop to shop, meticulously selecting the pearls they wanted.
Not long afterward, Yanai and the other mates arrived as well, quickly spotting the two of them in the crowd.
"That damned snake and lion are here too," Sal muttered darkly.
"Ignore them. Let’s choose our own," Odian replied calmly.
Whether those two would even get the chance to give their pearls away was still uncertain.
"We should all buy different colors," Kith suggested. "Otherwise, Nina won’t know who gave which necklace."
The males immediately agreed.
After a brief discussion, they split up to choose individually.
Even though, technically speaking, every gift to Nina carried the same meaning, they still wanted her to recognize which strand belonged to whom.
And so, before long, the most expensive pearls along the entire street had all been bought out.
The next morning, Nina stared at the layers upon layers of colorful pearl necklaces draped around her neck and nearly laughed.
This was absolutely ridiculous. Her neck was practically buried beneath them.
But after seeing Rosen and Shania equally overloaded with pearls, she instantly felt better. If everyone looked the same, then it wasn’t embarrassing anymore.
Meanwhile, Idir and the others still hadn’t given Nina their necklaces yet.
Rather than handing them over casually, they wanted to create the perfect opportunity to be alone with her first.
"Nina, this outfit looks absolutely stunning on you," Shania praised her looks sincerely.
"Our Nina looks beautiful in anything," Rosen declared proudly.
"Totally agreed," Shania chimed in immediately.
Shania linked arms with Nina on one side while Rosen claimed the other.
Since they would be walking around all day, the cubs were carried by the males instead.
Because Nina’s palace was located in the city center, it didn’t take long for them to reach the festival grounds.
The Sea Song Festival was so massive that the city divided it into different sections according to district. Residents attended the celebration in their designated areas.
The central district housed the most powerful and influential clans, so the displays there were naturally rarer and more luxurious.
By the time Nina and the others arrived, the venue was already packed with a sea of people.
"There are so many beastmen," Nina exclaimed.
"This is actually one of the less crowded sections," Shania explained. "The other districts are even worse."
Rosen pointed ahead, eagerness dancing in her eyes.
"Nina, let’s start from this side."
"Alright."
Nina strolled through the festival with Rosen and the others while the males followed close behind.
The displays showcased every imaginable treasure—corals, gemstones, rare pelts, jewelry, ornaments, and exotic crafts.
Some were for sale, others merely for exhibition.
As they wandered, Nina and the females bought whatever caught their fancy.
Meanwhile, Yina had secretly learned of Nina’s outing the moment they left the palace and had quietly followed them ever since.
Along the way, countless males approached Nina and the others to offer pearl necklaces.
Several handsome young beastmen soon stopped directly in front of Nina.
"Little female," a blond-haired male said shyly, holding out a strand of luminous white pearls, "these are pearls I cultivated myself. Their quality is excellent. I’d like to give them to you."
He glanced at the pearls already hanging around Nina’s neck.
His pearls were admittedly just slightly inferior... But he still wanted to try.
The female before him was simply too beautiful.
Another blue-haired male quickly stepped forward.
"Little female, mine are special too. The color is very rare. I’d also like to offer them to you."
Then more necklaces appeared from every direction.
Pearls of every size and shade were thrust toward her until Nina was completely surrounded.
Nearby, Rosen and the others were facing similar situations, equally encircled by eager males offering gifts.
The mates watched the scene with dark expressions, both annoyed and helpless.
Rosen had already warned them beforehand that during the Sea Song Festival, a female’s mates were forbidden from stopping other males from gifting pearls.
It was part of the festival tradition.
All they could do now was silently pray Nina wouldn’t take a liking to any of them.
As far as they were concerned, there were already too many males sharing their female as it was.
Looking at the overwhelming number of pearls in front of her, Nina felt a little overwhelmed.
She politely declined each necklace one by one before retreating behind her mates for refuge.
The moment the males realized she had refused them all, they visibly relaxed.
Immediately stepping forward, they formed a protective wall around Nina, blocking the eager males from approaching again.
Seeing this, the rejected males could only leave reluctantly.
After a while, Rosen and the others finally managed to free themselves as well.
When they returned to Nina’s side, she noticed several additional pearl necklaces hanging around their necks.
Shania blinked in surprise when she realized Nina’s collection hadn’t grown at all.
"Nina... you didn’t accept a single one?"
Quite a few of those males had seemed pretty decent to her. Why had Nina rejected every single necklace?
"No," Nina replied lightly. "I just wasn’t interested."
"They’re not worthy of our Nina," Rosen declared proudly.
Nina’s mates were all exceptional males standing at the very peak. How could ordinary beastmen possibly compare?
Shania nodded in agreement. That was indeed true.
Not only were those males nowhere near as handsome as Nina’s mates, but she’d also heard they were frighteningly powerful.
After all, even their own city lord hadn’t managed to win Nina’s favor.
After walking a little farther, Shania pointed excitedly toward a large building ahead.
"That’s the female-exclusive district. Want to go take a look?"
Rosen definitely looked tempted. "Nina, there are lots of things females love over there. Let’s go see!"
