Villains Act Shamelessly: The Heiress was the Great National Master!

Chapter 510: Prayer

Chapter 510: Prayer

"Mrs. Quinn usually keeps a low profile. It’s really hard for us to arrange to see her; at most, you’ll see her attending significant events."

Out of sheer curiosity about Serena Quinn, Thea Shaw sought out the only person who could possibly enlighten her, Mrs. Seymour.

Mrs. Seymour thought carefully about her impression of Mrs. Quinn: "She inherited the entire Quinn Family, very wealthy, never been in a relationship, a very peculiar woman."

"Never been in a relationship?"

Thea Shaw gasped: "She must be over forty by now, right?"

What kind of terrifying woman is this?

"Whether she’s been in a relationship or not, that’s really unclear. In our circle, even the slightest whisper spreads quickly. Even if Mrs. Quinn did have a relationship, it wouldn’t be something unheard of. Yet, not a single bit of news has ever surfaced, so she must have never been in one. However, she lived abroad for decades; maybe she had her heart broken overseas, who knows."

What Mrs. Seymour said was only speculative, but she was just as curious: "Why are you so concerned about Mrs. Quinn?"

"I’m just curious."

Thea Shaw found a universal excuse and smiled: "Mrs. Seymour, if you don’t know, it’s fine."

"I’d like to help you, but you know, the affairs surrounding Mrs. Quinn..."

Mrs. Seymour took a sip of the tea her servant brewed, looking at Thea Shaw with a smile that was half-amused: "But I do admire her, apparently the Quinn Family never even considered having her inherit. She was sent abroad when she was just a child."

Thea Shaw thought to herself, how fitting, you, someone who made a move to end your husband’s life, would admire this type of woman who can inherit an entire family with such resolve.

"If you’re really curious..." Mrs. Seymour was astute in her understanding: "I might have a way. As far as I know, Mrs. Quinn goes to a church every week to pray. She seems to be a devout Christian, maybe you can find some common ground there."

Thea Shaw thought about how a Taoist like her could possibly have any common language with a Christian.

But it wouldn’t hurt to take a look.

Thea Shaw agreed.

It just so happened that the next day was when Mrs. Quinn would go to pray.

This itinerary wasn’t exactly secretive, but interest in this area wasn’t high; at least Mrs. Seymour didn’t believe in these things.

The church wasn’t particularly remarkable, large enough that anyone could visit, and every week there was a group that went to pray.

The next day, Thea Shaw woke up early and was driven to the church by a driver sent by Mrs. Seymour.

The church was called St. Elara Cathedral, not exactly a traditional church name.

Upon arriving at St. Elara, even early in the morning, there were quite a few people coming to pray, but Thea Shaw immediately noticed what wasn’t right.

The attendees were mostly elderly folks, who came because this church distributed eggs every week. The elderly collected their eggs and left, not sparing a glance at the church.

Thea Shaw: "..."

Mrs. Quinn’s taste was indeed a bit baffling.

Once the elder egg-collectors left, only a few people entered the church.

The church was grand, but not located on a main street, so with few visitors, it felt desolate.

Thea Shaw entered inside; only a priest stood on the steps in the hall, reciting a passage from the Bible in English.

Listening made Thea Shaw’s head ache, but the atmosphere was quiet, so she didn’t make a sound. She glanced around randomly and spotted Mrs. Quinn amidst the sparse crowd.

Her presence was so remarkable it was impossible to ignore.

Just like at the funeral, she wore a round-collared black hat, with a mask underneath.

Her hands were clasped over her chest, eyes closed, listening piously as the priest recited the scripture.

In that moment, she appeared more divine than the priest himself.
