Mrs Fox Heinous Revenge: Can You Love A Villainess like Me?

Chapter 303: Loneliness Won’t Exist

Chapter 303: Loneliness Won’t Exist

Evangeline lifted her face again only to pause when they all saw the shadow approaching toward her dungeon. The person who had arrived at her cell was none other than Leon, the brother of Liam Barney whose face felt as though cut from the same cloth, so similar that it was difficult to find a difference.

But Eva didn’t know what to do, she didn’t know how she should feel or act after hearing the secret of her family. Secret of her birth, as well as the reason why she had been so hated was all due to a deformative that she couldn’t even see on her body anymore.

’What makes one a family, Evangeline? Blood? Or the fact that they will stand by your side forever?’

Hades’s voice echoed in her head as if it was spoken in a large empty cave, resounding so deeply to her heart to the point that all she could think of was that one particular question he had asked.

She didn’t know the answer to that question. She didn’t... but now?

Evangeline doubted that family was only related by blood. That blood was the only reason why one become family with a stranger.

She was so desperate for a family and though she has people who shared the same blood as her, they didn’t share any other quality that make a family a family other than the fact that they lived in the same house for decades and that... she shared their blood.

"Step out, Miss Evangeline."

Eva looked up to Leon. Her delicate round green eyes were filled with tears, burning with such fear and unfairness that it almost appeared as if she was threading on a thin thread and was about to fall, the face of someone on verge of breaking apart to pieces.

Leon’s heart thumped upon seeing that expression.

He had seen so many people weeping around the dungeon, those lost of hope, those fearing death and people who still beg for help that would never reach to anyone’s ears.

Their tears all felt the same to Leon.

Sad, yes. Sympathy, yes. But that was all. He knew well to detach himself from emotions when dealing with the prisoners as kindness and mercy didn’t go along with punishment and law.

The moment he felt guilty was the moment he was going to cause more harm than good to the law he had sworn to protect. And though he was knew to the work, he was always trained in feeling nothing to others’s situation that doesn’t involve his own.

Yet seeing Evangeline’s glistening tears and her face that felt as if so close to breaking apart, a troubling emotion knotted his heart.

"I’m sorry," Evangeline weakly muttered as she pushed herself to stand, wiping away the tears on the corner of her eyes.

She didn’t know how she had the energy to walk and though her body was moving, it felt as if she was outside of her own body, so empty and numb, like she was forced to move not because she wanted to move.

Leon quietly stepped backward and as she didn’t struggle, he didn’t touch a hair on her body and let her walk before him as he locked her cell.

They weren’t far away from the cell yet when Serena yelled, "Don’t forget! Beg for someone help! That’s the least you could do after causing so much misery to this family!"

Mrs Crestmont agreed as she said, "Don’t disappoint us any further and do what you’re supposed to do!"

But Evangeline couldn’t bother hearing their words anymore.

Even though if she walked faster, she was going to be judge for the sin, might as well walking faster to her own death, Evangeline rather walked away much faster, separate herself from her family for good.

As they were far enough from the corridor, she finally slowed down and feeling the gaze from behind her, she turned to meet Leon’s eyes. It seemed he was surprised that she noticed his gaze as seen by the way he quickly darted his gaze to the ground and seemed awkward as he furrowed his eyebrows.

"Is there anyone you would like to speak with?" He finally questioned.

Evangeline still couldn’t think far from the fact that she has scales... closing her eyes, she turned to him, exhaustion wrapping her weakened tone, "Why do you ask that?"

"It is the procedure for the criminal to have a talk with one of their chosen people before interrogation. As after the interrogation if you are deemed to be wrong, you will immediately be sentenced to the scaffold." Then adding with a small sigh was a word, "Usually it is reserved for family."

"Family," Evangeline looked back at the cold dungeon cell and smiled, "Well as you see, I have no one."

Leon seemed speechless by her words and he asked again, "Maybe a friend?"

A friend? Milo who betrayed her?

She couldn’t possibily call Madam Trevor, not to break the news to the woman when she was going to die.

Then... there is... Hades.

His face slipped into her thoughts but as quickly as it entered, her heart felt weary.

In no way could she call him here... to ask for help?

How embarrassing.

Embarrassing for her to tell him that she was in all this mess because of her own family.

It wasn’t her ego that had stopped her from begging for his help, no. It was a feeling of immense sorrow and shame.

He had warned her to be careful of her family and she was even upset at him when he told her to leave her family but now... she has to suffer for her own choice, for the choice of standing with her family who had clearly abandoned her the moment she was born.

"No..." she said weakly, "I have no one."

Leon briefly sighed and nodded, "Then I shall show you the way to the interrogation room."

As she was brought away, a silver of cold air wrapped around her neck like the cold noose awaiting for her in a few hours.

Resignful, she closed her eyes while the Lord who was leaning on the large plush chair of his castle finally opened his violet eyes, frowning as he looked forward to Apollo, his aide.

"She asked for no one?" He asked his aide again.
