Chapter 347: Sulking wolf
Chapter 347: Sulking wolf
The next morning, Rory was awakened by a faint tickling sensation on her face.
Still half asleep, she frowned and instinctively lifted a hand to brush away whatever was disturbing her rest, only for her wrist to be caught midway.
A warm, soft kiss landed gently on her lips.
"Vincent, stop it..."
Rory mumbled in dissatisfaction and tried to push away the person beside her.
They had stayed up far too late the night before, and she was still exhausted. All she wanted was a little more sleep.
The moment the words left her mouth, however, the person holding her not only refused to let go but tightened their grip around her wrist.
"Mmph..."
Before Rory could react, she was pulled into a fierce kiss.
The cool scent surrounding him instantly overwhelmed her senses, stealing every breath and leaving her feeling as though she were being completely consumed.
Xarion?
Rory’s eyes snapped open.
She found herself staring directly into a pair of silver-gray eyes.
Jealousy burned openly within them.
Xarion finally released her lips, his cool fingers gently pinching her chin.
"Female Master," he said quietly, "have you figured out who I am now?"
The sight of him left Rory stunned.
She immediately looked around.
This was definitely the room she and Vincent had been staying in.
"Xarion?"
Her eyes widened as she looked at the man holding her firmly against his chest.
"What are you doing here?"
Then another thought struck her.
"Where’s Vincent?"
Had Vincent been the one who let Xarion in?
Had he recovered?
Xarion stared at her in dissatisfaction.
The first thing she asked after waking wasn’t about him.
It was Vincent.
After being stolen away by Vincent for so many days, she was still looking for him first.
The thought left a bitter ache in his chest.
His arms tightened around her waist as though he wanted to pull her into his very bones.
His voice came out rough and unmistakably accusatory.
"Female Master, when you’re with me, you’re not allowed to talk about other men."
He lowered his gaze.
Long silver lashes cast shadows over the turbulent emotions hidden beneath.
"You only remember Vincent."
His voice grew softer, tinged with unmistakable hurt.
"He took you away for so many days. Didn’t you miss me at all?"
The jealous wolf was sulking.
Rory immediately wrapped her arms around him and began soothing him.
"Of course I missed you."
"You’re lying."
Xarion lifted his head.
His silver-gray eyes locked onto hers as he spoke in a low, aggrieved voice.
"When I kissed you just now, you called out Vincent’s name."
The more he spoke, the more wronged he felt.
His arms tightened around her waist again.
"You didn’t even realize it was me. Female Master, you don’t care about me at all."
"I do care about you."
Rory hurried to explain when she saw the mixture of anger and sadness on his face.
"I was still half asleep. My brain wasn’t working yet."
She squeezed his arm gently.
"I honestly thought the person beside me was still Vincent. I hadn’t even fully woken up."
Even after hearing her explanation, Xarion remained unconvinced.
"Fine."
He gave a reluctant nod.
"Let’s say you were still asleep and didn’t realize it was me."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"But what about afterward?"
He refused to let the matter go.
"You saw it was me, and you still didn’t ask how I was."
His voice grew increasingly aggrieved.
"You immediately asked where Vincent was."
Rory felt a headache coming on.
Being the peacemaker in this family was genuinely exhausting.
Looking at him, she patiently continued her explanation.
"I wasn’t ignoring you."
She sighed softly.
"You know Vincent’s condition hasn’t been stable lately."
Concern filled her eyes.
"I asked because I was worried something might have happened to him."
Then she cupped Xarion’s face in both hands and looked at him with complete sincerity.
"Xarion, I swear every one of you is equally important to me."
Before he could raise another objection, Rory leaned forward and gently kissed his slightly pursed lips.
"I really wasn’t neglecting you."
Her voice softened.
"You have no idea how happy I was when I found out you and Vangar had come looking for me."
She rested her forehead against his.
"I know you’ve all been worried about me these past few days."
A warm smile appeared on her face.
"And I missed all of you, too."
"So stop being upset, okay?"
The truth was, Xarion wasn’t truly angry.
What bothered him was that for days, almost all of Rory’s attention had been focused on Vincent.
And he was jealous.
The truth was, he simply wanted to use a few tricks to steal more of her attention and be pampered a little himself.
Watching Rory carefully coax and reassure him, most of the resentment and jealousy lingering in Xarion’s heart melted away instantly.
Without warning, he lowered his head and kissed her.
Only after leaving her breathless and flushed did he finally pull back, still looking reluctant to stop.
"Female Master, you said we’re all equally important."
His silver-gray eyes fixed on hers.
"You’re not allowed to lie to me."
"I swear to the Beast God," Rory said immediately, "I’m absolutely not lying to you."
At the same time, she quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, Xarion was relatively easy to appease.
A few words and he was already feeling better.
Once she had successfully soothed him, Rory returned to her original question.
This time, however, she had learned from her mistake.
She wasn’t only asking about Vincent.
Looking at Xarion, she asked sweetly, "Xarion, why are you here? Where are Vangar and Vincent?"
Xarion answered honestly.
"Vangar and Vincent went out early this morning to deal with something."
He lowered his forehead against hers and gently pressed her back onto the bed.
"They asked me to stay here with you."
His voice softened.
"Female Master... did you miss me?"
Who knew how long Vangar and Vincent would be occupied?
That left plenty of time for him to spend alone with her before they returned.
Rory settled back against the pillows, her brows knitting together slightly.
What business could Vincent and Vangar possibly have together so early in the morning?
They weren’t off fighting each other, were they?
Just as she was lost in thought, a faint sting suddenly brushed against her neck.
The sensation snapped her back to reality.
She looked up directly into Xarion’s dissatisfied gaze.
"Female Master," he complained, "you’re daydreaming at a time like this."
He looked genuinely aggrieved.
Could it be that he wasn’t skilled enough?
Was that why she couldn’t focus on him?
"I’m not. I wasn’t. You have to let me explain."
She nearly buried herself alive with embarrassment.
She had only just finished calming him down.
"Xarion, listen to me."
"Explain?"
A low laugh escaped him.
As he looked at her, a pair of silver wolf ears emerged from his hair.
His fluffy tail appeared as well, curling possessively around her waist.
"Female Master is welcome to explain."
His eyes gleamed mischievously.
"But I don’t want an explanation with words."
His voice dropped lower.
"I want a practical demonstration."
As he spoke, he gently caught the side of her neck between his teeth.
Sharp wolf fangs rested against her smooth skin.
"Female Master," he murmured, "have you figured out how you’re going to explain yourself?"
The instant his teeth touched her skin, a tingling sensation spread through her body.
It raced through her nerves and left her momentarily frozen.
Even her breathing faltered.
Was she cursed lately?
Why was every single one of them becoming increasingly devious?
"I..."
Rory had barely opened her mouth when a sudden wave of nausea rolled through her stomach.
Her face changed immediately.
She shoved Xarion aside, jumped out of bed, and hurried toward the bathroom.
The abrupt reaction left Xarion completely stunned.
What had just happened?
Had she been disgusted enough by him to throw up?
That couldn’t be right.
He had deliberately copied some of Vincent’s methods.
Rory had spent days with that scheming firebird and never reacted like this.
So why was she suddenly sick the moment he tried it?
Or...
A dreadful thought struck him.
Did she simply not like him anymore?
"Urgh..."
The sound of retching echoed from inside the bathroom.
Xarion froze for a split second.
Then all his wild thoughts vanished instantly.
Without another moment’s hesitation, he rushed toward the bathroom.
