Chapter 307 - 305: Genius Baby and Handsome Mother
The dorm room door was pushed open from the outside. As soon as the dorm head stepped inside, she saw Mia Grant sitting stiff as a statue on her bed.
She jumped. "Kitty?"
Mia Grant snapped out of it, pushed aside a corner of the bed curtain that was in her way, and returned a smile. "You’re back?"
The dorm head looked her over. "Yeah. Why are you up so early?"
Holding her phone, Mia Grant got out of bed. "Just going to the bathroom."
"Oh, right, can you tell them I’ll be absent this afternoon? I have to go out for something."
"Oh, okay."
After quickly washing up, Mia Grant changed into some comfortable clothes and left.
She had barely stepped off campus when a car slowly pulled up in front of her.
The front passenger window rolled down, and Zero, sitting inside, waved at her. "Miss, don’t you have class this afternoon? Where are you headed? We can give you a ride."
Mia Grant glanced at him and smirked. "Alright."
Zero immediately got out of the car to open the back door for her.
The car started moving, and the driver asked for their destination.
"To Mr. Keller’s place."
The driver and Zero froze. They exchanged a look for two seconds before Zero turned back and asked with a smile, "Is there something you need to do there, Miss?"
"Looking for something." Mia Grant looked down, fiddling with a game on her phone as its sound effects chimed. Zero was forced to shut his mouth.
’It should be fine,’ he thought.
Mia Grant had lived at Mr. Keller’s house for a while before, and there were many of her things there.
* * *
The basement.
Mia Grant rummaged through a storage box. "My things aren’t here?"
"Your belongings are upstairs," a maid replied.
"I mean... forget it. Zero!"
She shouted toward the doorway. Soon, footsteps approached, and Zero squeezed in from behind a pile of boxes near the entrance.
"Miss."
"After I jumped into the sea, you guys brought over all my things from the Grant Family’s house, didn’t you?"
"Ah." Zero neither confirmed nor denied it.
Mia Grant crossed her arms and looked at him. "Stop pretending. Where are they?"
"Actually, it was only a small portion."
Having no choice, Zero led her upstairs to Kian Keller’s study. "After you jumped into the sea, Mr. Keller did go to the Grant Family’s house. He wanted to sort through your... things."
He had almost said "mementos," but thankfully, he stopped himself in time.
"You know Mr. Grant’s temper. He wouldn’t let anyone touch your things, so Mr. Keller only managed to bring back a small portion. The rest should still be at the Grant Family’s house."
Mia Grant frowned.
"I didn’t leave anything valuable behind. No need to fight over it. Besides, what’s the point of keeping a dead person’s stuff?"
"..." Zero cleared his throat, not daring to agree. "Well, they serve as a keepsake for Mr. Keller."
Mia Grant pouted. "He didn’t exactly cherish me when I was around."
"How could you say that? Mr. Keller just isn’t good at expressing himself."
Mia Grant knew that now. As for before... she certainly hadn’t felt it.
The study door was pushed open, and Zero made a welcoming gesture.
The afternoon light was dim. Zero was about to turn on the lights, but to his surprise, Mia Grant walked to the desk with practiced ease and pressed a button on the control panel.
The room was flooded with light. Zero was slightly taken aback. "Have you been in Mr. Keller’s study before?"
"I have," Mia Grant said, looking back at him. "Why? Is this room off-limits?"
Zero quickly shook his head and said nothing.
"The things should be over here."
Zero led her to an inner room within the study. Inside was a row of cabinets made of some unknown, fragrant wood whose scent was noticeable even from a distance.
"Please, look for yourself."
Zero stood at a distance, so as not to disturb her.
Mia Grant pulled open a drawer. A few seconds later, the corner of her mouth twitched. "Didn’t you say you only brought back a small portion?"
"I did."
Mia Grant sifted through a pile of her old textbooks and scratch paper from who-knows-what-year... ’He brought all of this back?’
Besides the textbooks and certificates, there were also some of her clothes, all neatly folded and placed in the cabinet.
Mia Grant rummaged through the contents.
After a long while, Zero spoke up. "What are you looking for? Perhaps you should give Mr. Keller a call?"
"Does he go through these things often?"
"No." Zero thought for a moment before saying, "After they were brought back, Mr. Keller personally placed everything in this cabinet. He only opens it to look inside occasionally. He rarely touches anything, for fear of damaging it."
Mia Grant muttered, "What’s so great about this stuff that’s worth collecting..."
Zero hesitated for a moment but couldn’t hold back. "Maybe they really do have a greater purpose."
"Such as?"
Mia Grant took a moment to look back at him.
"Mr. Keller’s health has been poor since he was a child," Zero began.
"I know. Wasn’t that why he was sent to a temple as a child?"
"Then you probably don’t know that a couple of years ago, a master predicted that Mr. Keller’s lifeline would end in his middle age."
"Middle age?"
"To be precise, in about ten years."
"At first, Mr. Keller didn’t believe it. But after you left, he kept your things, saying that he would be buried with you in ten years."
"..." Mia Grant felt goosebumps break out all over her skin. She quickly lowered her gaze, pouted, and retorted, "He’s really sick in the head."
She turned back, pulled out a textbook, and flipped through it. "Someone like him will live to be a hundred."
"We’ve said the same, but Mr. Keller never believes us. But if you say so, Miss, he’ll definitely believe it."
"What does it matter if he doesn’t believe it? I’ve already kowtowed to Buddha on his behalf. He has to live to be a hundred whether he believes it or not. It’s not up to him."
"I’ve never once asked Buddha for anything for myself in my entire life."
Just as Zero was about to say something, he saw an exhausted Mia Grant plop down on the floor. "Why is there so much stuff here?"
"Miss, don’t sit on the floor! Wait here, I’ll go get you a stool!"
The man behind her ran out. Mia Grant took the opportunity to pull a novel from a pile of books—*Genius Baby and Handsome Mother*.
She flipped through it briefly. As expected, it was the original owner’s diary.
’Thankfully, it has a novel’s cover, so no one should have opened it.’
A noise came from outside the door, and Mia Grant quickly stuffed the book into her bag.
’In the original book, the villainess was both malicious and stupid. Who in their right mind even keeps a diary these days? And she wrote down all her thoughts and hatred for the female lead in it.’
’This diary was one of the catalysts. Not long after I transmigrated, it was almost discovered by Serena Grant. Luckily, I reacted quickly.’
’I’d originally planned to burn it.’
’But at the time, I knew nothing about the villainess, so I planned to use this diary to understand her habits and avoid exposing myself.’
’I don’t know what’s gotten into Kian Keller, but he’s already started looking for photos of me from a few years ago.’
’Sooner or later, he was going to go through these old things of mine.’
’I don’t care about the rest, but this diary has to be destroyed.’
’I haven’t actually finished reading everything inside, so I don’t know what else the villainess wrote. This can’t become a tool for them to test me.’
Night fell. Mia Grant tossed the diary into a fire.
She was staying in the off-campus house Yuri Sinclair had given her. It was quiet all around, and she was alone.
Sitting down, she stared at the flames burning in the bathtub and clicked her tongue. "System," she said, "do you think Kian Keller already suspects me?"
