Chapter 411 - 283: A Lack of Self-Confidence and Will She Still Exist in the World?
Chapter 411 - 283: A Lack of Self-Confidence and Will She Still Exist in the World?
Her wrist was suddenly gripped tight. Before Wamiya had time to cry out, a pair of cold, slick hands slid from her wrist to her slender waist, and she was dazzled by the colors that crashed into her vision.
Legend has it that the beauty of the Merfolk makes all else pale in comparison.
The man before her had blue hair and blue eyes. His features were exquisite, handsome, and flawless. His bare, slender upper body had muscles as defined as an ice sculpture, and a sapphire-blue fishtail connected to his narrow waist, the transition marked by a delicate layer of soft, pale scales.
The part of his fishtail that broke the surface of the water refracted the sunlight, creating a dreamlike kaleidoscope of colors.
"Ah Jin..." The moment he saw her, the merman’s blue eyes instantly filled with tears. He choked out between sobs, "It really is you... SOB... I knew my senses weren’t wrong. You’ve really come back!"
Snapping back to her senses, Wamiya shook her head and took two steps back. "No, I don’t know you..." But the merman’s hands held her fast, and just as he was about to yank her into the water—
Another surge of Energy shattered the surface of the lake.
The once-calm water erupted into turmoil. Xi’s expression changed drastically as he stared intently at the two figures that had appeared nearby. He pulled the female into his arms. "I may not be a match for you on land, but in the water, this is my domain."
As he spoke, he raised his hand. The water, which had just calmed, once again surged into monstrous waves, and several columns of water shot out to attack the two figures in the distance.
Ling Hong and Ze Sheng were prepared. They dodged the attack in a flash, and both stared out at the lake, their expressions grim.
Ling Hong was so angry that faint signs of his beast form began to show. ’I can’t believe this fish found out too,’ he thought, ’and even swam all this way back to snatch her so brazenly!’
Ze Sheng hated Mi Yin, and by extension, he couldn’t stand Xi, who was also a cold-blooded creature. This was to say nothing of the fact that this overconfident merman had previously launched multiple attacks on the cities under his command. The two had long held a deep-seated grudge against each other.
He was just about to make his move, but when he got a clear look at what the merman was holding, he froze and stumbled back several steps.
Xi held the female in one arm while a pale blue Crystal Stone floated slowly above his other palm. He raised an eyebrow, flashing a brilliant, provocative smile at the grim-faced Ze Sheng. "You must be dying to ask where I got this, aren’t you? This Soul fragment was discarded by you, so why is it now in my hands?"
Then, he turned to Ling Hong, sneering viciously, "You stupid wolf, don’t be in such a hurry to attack me. The one in front of you is our common enemy!"
The scene fell into a strange silence. The three sides were poised on the brink of conflict, their tense auras creating a delicate, precarious balance.
Xi took the opportunity to retreat deeper into the lake, not forgetting to sow discord between the other two—
"As for why Ah Jin lost her memories, I suspect it’s because the moment she was reborn, this despicable bastard tore out the Soul fragment that governed her memories and threw it away!"
He then turned his head and smiled at Ze Sheng, whose face was growing colder by the second. "But I bet you never expected this, did you? We in the deep sea have a burial ground personally established by the great Beast God. The Souls of all the Beastmen who die on the continent return to the Deep Sea Abyss."
"If I hadn’t discovered that, in addition to the auras of Ah Jin and the Shark Pearl, there was a lingering trace of your own aura on the Soul Crystal Stone, I suppose the truth would have been buried forever, don’t you think?"
"Just a mere merman, and you dare make such wild accusations." Ze Sheng raised his sword and charged at him.
But another force rose to meet his charge head-on.
It was Ling Hong!
"Why not let him finish? I’d like to see who’s really lying." Despite his words, it was clear Ling Hong had taken Xi’s side. He glanced at the panicked merman and said, "Take Ah Jin to the deep sea. Find her memories. But if you deceive me, I won’t spare you!"
Phew. Xi patted his chest. ’That was close. That old bastard almost chopped me in two,’ he thought. ’Compared to a King Beast like him, who has accumulated Energy for over a hundred years, I really am too young and weak.’
But before leaving, he couldn’t resist one last jab.
"Hmph, just lashing out in shame? If you really had nothing to hide, why would you be in such a hurry to destroy the witness and the evidence?"
"I’ve already found Ah Jin’s Soul fragments, but you don’t dare let her use them. What’s wrong? Not confident in yourself? Afraid that once Ah Jin gets her memory back, she’ll forget all about you—"
He didn’t get to finish his sentence.
Just as a ferocious surge of Energy slammed into the water’s surface, he hastily made his escape.
...
This beautiful, large pool had been specially built for Xi on An Jin’s personal orders years ago. It connected directly to the nearby lakes and rivers, eventually leading all the way to the deep sea.
Because Xi was playful by nature, he used to frequently use this pool to swim out and play in the surrounding river systems, occasionally even going home to visit family. As a result, he knew the complex network of surrounding waterways like the back of his hand.
So, Xi immediately began swimming toward the deep sea, taking the female with him.
Those two were pure-blooded land-dwelling males. No matter how powerful they were on land, in the sea, their only fate was to drown. Xi wasn’t worried at all about being pursued, so he began to slow his pace.
He noticed that the female in his arms was still breathing normally. ’It seems the power of the Shark Pearl is still inside her,’ he thought, quietly breathing a sigh of relief.
"Ah Jin, you heard everything just now, didn’t you?" Xi asked in a low voice. He was certain she had, but he worried that the version of her who had been brainwashed by that bastard Ze Sheng would deliberately choose to ignore it.
Her silence on the way there was unnervingly abnormal. She hadn’t even struggled in the slightest, which, contrary to his expectations, made Xi feel uneasy.
She gave a low hum of acknowledgment and said no more. Her delicate brows were knitted together, and she seemed to be deeply troubled.
’What was I like before? What is my relationship with all of them?’
Wamiya had thought she was gradually recovering her memories, but after hearing their conversation, she realized she seemed to be the only one drifting further and further from the truth.
’Why do they make Ze Sheng, the one I like the most, sound like a villain?’
’And this merman... did he know the old me, too? What was our relationship?’
Her mind felt like a tangled mess. The more she tried to sort through her thoughts, the more chaotic they became.
Xi brought her back to the Deep Sea Palace, dismissing the Mermaid guards they encountered along the way and taking her to his personal chambers.
It was a magnificent room constructed from multicolored coral and undersea rock, fully equipped with all manner of furnishings and necessities. Countless Luminous Pearls and Crystal Stones of varying brightness were embedded in the crevices of the stone walls, emitting a light as brilliant as a billion stars.
In the middle of the room sat a giant clamshell. Through its slightly parted lips, one could faintly make out soft, folded layers of Shark Sha.
With a gentle flick of his fishtail, Xi placed her onto the clamshell bed.
Seeing her increasingly agitated expression, he felt a pang of heartache and anxiety. After a moment’s hesitation, he offered her the pale blue Crystal Stone. "Ah Jin, this is the Soul that holds your memories. If you eat it, you will recover all of them..."
She hesitated for a moment before taking the beautiful Crystal Stone and holding it in her palm.
It was as if her body and the Crystal Stone shared some kind of connection.
The Crystal Stone’s light grew brighter, and the palm holding it began to tremble slightly.
"If I get my memories back... will Wamiya still be Wamiya?"
She suddenly lowered her gaze. "Will I just become ’Ah Jin’?"
’Will Wamiya no longer exist in this world?’
’If that happens, won’t Ze Sheng be heartbroken?’
