Chapter 406 - 399: She Didn’t Dare to Take the Risk

She frowned, leaned closer, and took a careful sniff. That was it—that was the smell.

Her hands froze. She knew this scent all too well—it was Skylar Hayes’s homemade ointment.

Even though she hadn’t smelled it in over a year, and despite the scent on Cedric Grant being very faint, she was certain she wasn’t mistaken.

’So, he went to see Skylar Hayes? Is he really going to reconcile with her and her daughter just to use Clara Grant to cozy up to the Quinn family?’

’Has he even considered my feelings? Has he thought about our daughter and me at all?’

A storm was raging in Jean Jarvis’s heart, but her face remained impassive. She continued helping him change his clothes and asked, feigning nonchalance, "So, where were you today?"

Cedric Grant tilted his head back slightly, letting her straighten his collar. "Where else?" he said calmly. "The office, of course."

"At the office all day?" Jean Jarvis looked up at him and asked again.

Cedric Grant lowered his gaze to meet hers. He could tell from her look and her questions that something was amiss. After a moment, he looked away, casually smoothing his fresh clothes as he spoke.

"Yes. There’s been so much chaos at the company lately. Where else would I be? Ugh, it’s giving me a splitting headache."

Seeing him persist in his deception, Jean Jarvis’s anger finally erupted. She slammed the clothes in her hands onto the bed and stared at Cedric Grant. "Cedric Grant, you’re still trying to lie to me? If you were at the office all day, then where did this smell come from?

I’ve known Skylar Hayes for decades. We were practically sisters for years. I know the smell of that homemade ointment of hers better than anyone. And you still have the nerve to say you didn’t go see her? You still dare claim you were at the office all day?"

Cedric Grant glanced at her, seemingly unfazed by her fury. "Of course I went to see her. It’s not like you don’t know—Clara Grant and Seth Quinn have gone public. Her becoming a Quinn family daughter-in-law is a done deal.

By going to her, burying the hatchet, and smoothing things over, I can get Clara Grant to acknowledge me as her father sooner. When that happens, I’ll be known as Seth Quinn’s father-in-law. My status will skyrocket, and with the Quinn family’s backing, the Grant family’s fortunes will rise with the tide.

When the time comes, the Grant family business will boom and the money will pour in. And who will be the ones enjoying it? You and Chloe. As for you worrying about me and Skylar Hayes getting back together, that’s obviously impossible!"

But Jean Jarvis wasn’t buying it. ’Impossible to get back together? Who’s to say? He managed to have an affair with me behind Skylar Hayes’s back, so he could just as easily be with Skylar Hayes behind my back now.’
