Chapter 307: A Dream Before Hatching
Chapter 307: A Dream Before Hatching
Countless questions rose in his mind, but seeing his child crying from loneliness made Qiong Xing simply hold him close and reassure him everything was alright.
"You really are identical to him. Everyone will be so surprised."
"Mama together."
Honestly, Qiong Xing felt strangely happy seeing a child resemble his papa this much for the first time.
It was not that he disliked how much Lian and the others resembled him, but somewhere in his heart, he had always hoped the children would look more like the people he loved rather than himself.
"Even your crying face looks just like his. So cute."
Qiong Xing wondered if Iseul had looked like this as a child too.
The thought made him oddly emotional.
No wonder Raon spoiled him so much.
Though perhaps that was also why Iseul had grown into such a strange personality.
"I cannot wait to meet you outside someday. We will all be waiting for you, so grow up slowly and safely, alright? Mama will always stay by your side. You understand that too, don’t you?"
"Yeah."
Qiong Xing had never imagined he would be able to meet the child before they were even born, but because of that, he found himself looking forward to the day they would truly meet even more.
Raon had told him it would take at least about a year for the egg to hatch, so now that day felt unbearably far away.
"When you grow bigger, you have to show me your dragon form too, alright? Your papa is a very cool dragon, so I am excited to see it."
Qiong Xing had ridden on Iseul’s dragon form from time to time before, and just like his hair, those crimson scales were beautiful and impressive.
If the child resembled him this much already, then he would surely grow into a very handsome dragon too.
"I love you very much. I will stay by your side, alright?"
As his fading consciousness made him realize their time together was ending, Qiong Xing tightened his arms around the child one last time and gently stroked his back as if trying to reassure him.
He hope that the child would not feel lonely anymore, so he pressed a soft kiss to his forehead.
...
"Good morning. You can keep sleeping if you want."
When Qiong Xing opened his eyes again, he immediately understood this time was reality.
Unlike the child from before, the face looking down at him now was far more mature.
"You really are identical."
"Hm? What is?"
"It is nothing. More importantly, it seems I slept for quite a while. I should probably start preparing dinner soon."
The sun had already begun to set, and the scenery outside suggested it was around evening now.
Thinking about the children who had spent the whole day energetically running around, Qiong Xing stood up, knowing he needed to make food for them.
"I will help too!"
"Thank you. Then let us cook together."
Qiong Xing found it unusual for Iseul to volunteer to help on his own, but he appreciated that he was clearly trying his best.
"Nura, would you prefer a child who looks like you? Or one who looks like me?"
Even though he already knew the answer, Qiong Xing asked casually while they walked together.
As expected, Iseul immediately answered that he wanted a child who resembled Qiong Xing.
Qiong Xing laughing softly and saying that was unfortunate, he still secretly felt happy that the child in the dream had resembled Iseul instead.
"I would like to see a small dragon too, though."
"Ehh? Even if the child looks like me, they probably will not be cute."
Qiong Xing thought they would be more than cute enough.
He was already looking forward to seeing the child’s dragon form as well.
"I do not want another face like mine clinging all over you, Qiong Xing."
"I think it sounds very enjoyable."
Even while complaining, Qiong Xing knew Iseul would absolutely adore the child once they were born.
In fact, because the child resembled him so much, it might make Iseul feel even more strongly that the child was truly his.
"I would have liked to meet your mothers too, Nura."
"Hmm... if it were you, Qiong Xing, I think you would have gotten along with my mom. No, she probably would have spoiled you a lot. She was always complaining that my brother and I were too bulky and not cute at all."
"..."
That was not the kind of mother Qiong Xing had expected.
Apparently dragons were naturally large and well built, so Iseul’s mother had always wished for smaller, cuter children instead.
Certainly, the child Qiong Xing met earlier had been adorable, but imagining that child growing up into someone like the current Iseul made "cute" a difficult word to use.
"If she were still alive, she probably would have cried tears of joy."
...Was that really something he was supposed to be happy about?
Qiong Xing had already thought these brothers were unusual, but apparently their mother had been just as eccentric.
After all, wanting cuteness from sons like Iseul and his brother was certainly unexpected.
"...Are you lonely?"
"Me? Hmm... I do not think I am lonely anymore. Because I have everyone now."
There was no way losing his parents and watching so many companions die had not left deep sadness behind.
Qiong Xing suspected that part of the reason Iseul longed for children so desperately was because he had tried to fill that emptiness.
But now Qiong Xing was here.
Raon was here.
Leander and the others were here.
Lian and the children were here too.
So when Iseul smiled and said he was no longer lonely, Qiong Xing smiled back softly as well.
...
"I have never seen a dragon egg before."
"Right? This is my first time too."
Qiong Xing said it casually, but honestly, seeing how calm he was despite being the one who had laid the egg was more shocking than anything else.
